SMSF net flows
During the five years to 30 June 2013, overall net flow into SMSFs was $68.2 billion. Graph 4 shows this is predominantly attributable to contributions.
From 2009 to 2013, there was a 64% reduction in net inflows into SMSFs, from $19.5 billion to $7.1 billion. This is largely attributed to the fall in employer contributions and an increase in benefit payments which occurred in 2013, as well as the inclusion of administrative and investment expense items in the calculation of net fund flows (see Appendix 2).
Graph 4: Breakdown of SMSF fund flows
The net fund flow equals total contributions plus net transfers (inward minus outward rollovers) minus benefit payments and administrative and investment expenses.
