  • Maintaining the integrity of COVID-19 stimulus measures

We’re working hard to help those who are financially affected by COVID-19 to receive the support they need. We will help these people and businesses claim the stimulus payments if they need it and will not penalise them for making genuine mistakes.

We know most Australians are honest and do the right thing, but some people may try to take advantage of the tax and superannuation system for their own financial gain. We've seen some people engaging in illegal behaviour and developing contrived schemes to take advantage of the stimulus measures. We will not tolerate this behaviour and we have taken action to ensure fairness for all people and businesses who are doing the right thing.

We investigate unusual claims for stimulus payments and measures and refer the most serious cases to the Serious Financial Crime Taskforce.

If you suspect that someone is exploiting the tax and superannuation system, you can tell us about it by:

    • phoning the confidential ATO tip-off hotline 1800 060 062
    • using the online tip-off form.
