  • Brewing beer for commercial use

You can only make beer in accordance with your excise licence. If your licence only allows you to make beer for non-commercial purposes, this does not allow for making beer for commercial purposes. This includes beer you want to sell and beer you make as samples for customers to taste.

You should contact us if you want to change your licence to allow for making beer for commercial purposes.

    Next step:

If you do make beer commercially, you must keep records that distinguish between the two types of production and clearly identify the commercially brewed product. Commercially manufactured beer is not subject to sub items 1.15 or 1.16 in the Schedule to the Excise Tariff Act 1921. It is subject to a higher rate of duty.
