• Register of Foreign Ownership of Water

From 1 July 2017, foreign persons may need to register their interests in Australian registrable water entitlements or contractual water rights with us.

This information will be used to create the Register of Foreign Ownership of Water (Water Register).

Foreign persons with existing entitlements or rights have until 30 November 2017 or 30 days after they begin to hold that interest, whichever is the latter, to let us know about their current interests.

A registration form is available for foreign persons to register their water interests at Water Register

Following this stocktake period from 1 July 2017 to 30 November 2017, a foreign person must notify us of certain events regarding their interests in registrable water entitlements or contractual water rights every year.

They can register at any time during the year but no later than 30 days after the end of the financial year in which the event occurred.

    Free webinars

We are hosting a series of free webinars to provide information about the Water Register.

Come along to a webinar to find out whether you need to register. The ATO will also be on hand during the webinars to answer any questions you may have.
