Payments to ATO
How to pay
Our preferred payment methods are BPAY® and credit card.
Pay from overseas
You can pay from overseas via a range of convenient options.
We understand that sometimes it may not be possible to pay on time because of financial or other difficulties. If you can't pay your tax by the due date, contact us as soon as possible so we know about your situation and to make appropriate arrangements to pay your tax debt.
Interest and penalties
If you don't pay your tax on time, general interest charge (GIC) will be automatically added to what you owe. We may impose a penalty if you fail to comply with your obligations, such as where you do not lodge a document by the due date.
You will generally get an income tax refund after you lodge your return if your pay as you go (PAYG) instalments during the year exceed your income tax liability for that year. For activity statement refunds, if you have an ABN we can generally only pay refunds directly into your nominated account.
