  • Government entities

    From 1 July 2017, if you’re a government entity at the federal, state, territory or local levels you will need to report total payments you make to an entity wholly or partly for providing services.

    Additionally, only government entities at the federal, state and territory levels will need to report the total grants paid to people or organisations that have an ABN.

    Local government entities do not need to report grants.

    You need to report details of these payments and grants on the Taxable payments annual report. Your first report is due 28 August 2018, for the year ending 30 June 2018.

    The information reported may be used for pre-filling purposes to make it easier for individual businesses (sole traders) to lodge tax returns. It will also be used in our data matching program to identify businesses that have:

    • not lodged tax returns
    • omitted income from tax returns that have been lodged
    • not met their GST obligations.
