Operation Protego action continues

The ATO-led Serious Financial Crime Taskforce (SFCT) has taken further action as part of Operation Protego with a series of coordinated strikes across Queensland, NSW and Victoria.

Operation Protego, an investigation into a major GST fraud, has become the biggest fraud against the community by some parts of the community.

The GST fraud was originally promoted on social media channels but spread to enablers offering to help individuals to invent fake businesses in order to claim GST refunds that they weren’t entitled to.

Simply put, if you don’t operate a business, you don’t need an ABN and you shouldn’t lodge a BAS. This is fraud.
