• Record keeping evaluation tool

    You should use this tool if you are:

    • thinking about starting a business
    • in business and responsible for keeping the business records
    • responsible for managing business records of small businesses – such as registered tax agents or BAS agents, and bookkeepers.

    This tool should not be used by superannuation funds, non-profit organisations or government agencies, as they have particular record-keeping requirements.

    A report which indicates how well your business is keeping its records. If appropriate, this will include suggestions for improvement.

    If you are thinking about starting a business, you will only need to complete step 1. If you are already in business, you should complete both steps.

    The Record Keeping Evaluation Tool is not available for Apple operating systems.

    A web-based version of the Record Keeping Evaluation Tool, to replace the current downloadable version, is under development.

    Send an email to: recordkeepingevaluationtool@ato.gov.au telling us you received an error message stating your version of 'tabctl32.ocx may be outdated. If convenient, please include a contact phone number. We will then email you the updated file.'

    Failed to load control CommonDialog from ''comdlg32.ocx. Your version of comdlg32.ocx may be outdated. Make sure that you are using the version of the control that is provided with your application.
