• Indigenous self-employed in general

    In 2001,12 Indigenous self-employed people were most likely to be working in:

    • construction (21%)
    • retail (12%)
    • property and business services (12%), and
    • agriculture (10%).

    Out of the 6,089 Indigenous self-employed in 2001, only 2,045 (or 34%) employed others.13

    Self-employed Indigenous Australians were substantially more likely to hold a qualification than were Indigenous wage and salary earners, but were less likely to hold a qualification than other self-employed Australians.14
