Hey there! One of the first things I talk to my clients about is keeping your personal details secure. Hey, I’m an accountant and even I’m at risk.

Don’t let crimes be committed in your name. If your personal details are stolen, it can affect you getting a job, a loan, renting a house or applying for government services or benefits.

Always protect your personal information. And never share your tax file number or other personal info publically, like on social media.

Only give your tax file number to people with a legitimate reason for having it - your registered tax agent, your bank, or your employer after you begin work. Don’t put your tax file number on your resume.

And make sure you report any loss, theft or misuse of your tax file number to the ATO without delay by calling the ATO Indigenous Helpline on 13 10 30.
