  • ATO Online Superannuation Screens Communications Working Group key messages 19 February 2020

    Welcome

The co-chair welcomed the ATO Online Superannuation Screens Communications Working Group.

March deployment update including ATO Online screen walkthrough

A walkthrough of the ATO Online screens changes for the 14–15 March 2020 system release was provided. The changes improve the visibility of data for individuals and their authorised representatives and include:

    • ATO Online will now display several more contribution types including employer contributions made to defined benefit funds (notional taxed contributions and defined benefit employer contributions), as well as non-employer contributions such as personal contributions.
    • The employer contributions screen on ATO online will now display contributions from past financial years for 2018–19 onwards giving users more visibility and helping them track their contributions over a longer period.
    • Limited recourse borrowing arrangement amounts will now be displayed on the total super balance screen. SMSF members and tax agents will no longer need to manually calculate these amounts.

    Key readiness items

The working group discussed the updated frequently asked questions and support centre scripting, specifically focusing on required updates to the existing content as well as highlighting additional messages to support the greater display of data.

Members of the group provided feedback in relation to the potential display of government contributions and the nature of personal contributions on the Employer contributions screens.

Industry members of the group provided an update on how these communication products are being used by the funds to better support their clients.

    Future development conversations

The ATO would like to have a broader conversation about key items for the future. This is something that was discussed with industry in the past and requires revisiting as we work toward new initiatives such as nudge strategies and thinking about how we can further engage members with their super.

Individual interviews were proposed with some of the external representatives of the group to further discuss our journey so far, how we are progressing, if our engagement with industry can be improved and what else they would like to see us deliver in the digital space.
