  • Modernising Business Registers Business Advisory Group key messages 25 November 2019

    Program Update

    Belinda Robertson provided an update of the MBR Program:

    • Government remains committed to the MBR Program and design work continues. This message was reiterated by the Prime Minister as part of the deregulation agenda in his address to the Business Council of Australia on Wednesday, 20 November. Here is the associated media releaseExternal Link.

    • the legislation will be introduced in accordance with Government’s current priorities.

    Director Identification Number

    Andrew Stinziani provided an overview on the proposed Director Identification Number (DIN) design including a walkthrough of the conceptual DIN process (including during the transitional period).

    Members suggested exploring the approaches being used in other ATO initiatives such as myGovID and RAM to leverage engagement opportunities and learnings. They are keen to be involved in co-design activities.

    Roundtable Feedback

    Martin Jacobs invited members to raise issues or make observations, themes included:

    • data standards and disclosure framework
    • engagement approach and phases; such as awareness, education, adoption and key messages
    • awareness of the program’s timing.

    Report from the Design Working Group

    Martin Jacobs informed members that the MBR Design Working Group (DWG) had met twice, on 26 September and 14 November in between the Business Advisory Group meetings and explained the difference between the Business Advisory Group and the DWG.

    Natalie Ross provided an overview from the last DWG meeting and what they had covered, which was - MBR Program update, agreed to their terms of reference, a DIN update and informed about the breadth and depth of consultation undertaken (this consultation summary was part of the agenda papers).
