Modernising Business Registers (MBR) program update

The ATO and ASIC provided an update on activities in the last six months including ongoing Director Identification Number (DIN) consultation.

Group members were assured that although there hadn’t been a budget announcement, Government remained committed to MBR and DIN policy.

    MBR data standards

Treasury sought input from the group on the approach to the proposed MBR data standards.

Group members supported the adoption of a flexible approach to data standards.

They also recognized the need for greater consultation on the data standards development as well as on the process for their release and adoption.

    DIN update

Additional work has been done since the previous meeting of the group to explore the implementation of the DIN.

Group members suggested that a comprehensive education and communication campaign should accompany the implementation of the DIN to ensure success.
