    A sub-group of the Tax Profession Digital Implementation Group met on Thursday 5 April 2018 via video-conference.

    The information below is a summary of the main points discussed at this meeting of the communication preferencing solution working group.

    Communication preferencing functionality in the ATO Online services for agents

    The aim of the discussion was to understand how tax practitioners might use the communication preferencing functionality in the ATO Online services for agents and how it fits within existing business practices.

    The group is working together to ensure that the profession:

    • understands the functionality and the impacts on them and their clients,
    • is appropriately prepared to use the functionality
    • is supported through the change process.

    During the session the group:

    • Were shown a walk-through of the current communication preferencing solution that is proposed to be offered through ATO Online services for agents.
    • Were advised how the communication preferencing solution is planned to be progressively deployed.
    • Discussed and identified impacts of the solution on business practices of tax professionals.
    • Discussed and identified what is needed to prepare the profession to utilise the new functionality (including the role of the professional associations).
    • Discussed practice management software and how digital service providers can provide similar functionality to their clients.

    Detailed feedback from the session was collated and will be presented for consideration by the project team. Further updates and consultation will be held at future meetings of the Tax Profession Digital Implementation Group.
