• 10. ATO Updates

Mark Tomlinson updated members on the ATO’s review of public advice and guidance products.

    • Findings from first consultation phase to identify issues and benefits indicate the products can be improved; there is a perception that products and processes are not community focussed, are over-simplistic and are not maintained and updated.
    • Two recommendations have been made: Implement new internal business model, and improve contemporary channels.

Tim Dyce informed members of the ATO’s review of private advice and guidance products which is in the early stages of review.

    • A discussion paper will be released shortly and workshops will be held to consult on how these products can be tailored and improved for the intended audience.

Debbie Hastings informed members of the work underway to establish a separate appeals area in the ATO.

    • Staff are consulting on the benefits of bringing the objections work for all taxpayer groups into the established Review and Dispute Resolution area of the ATO.
