    Open forums

    Open forums are an opportunity to hear directly from tax practitioners about matters affecting the tax professional community. The forums provide a platform for discussion on how the environment and systems are changing, and allows the ATO to share important information to help practitioners prepare for change.

    The discussion topics cover:

    • Tax professional services including tax agent and BAS agent portals, client communications list, portal dashboards, lodgment program and Standard Business Reporting (SBR)
    • Digital services including myGov, ATO App, single touch payroll and plans for future online services
    • Our approach to debt
    • Superannuation for small business
    • Updates from the Tax Practitioners Board.

    The ATO will also demonstrate some of the digital products and services such as the ATOapp and the portal dashboards.

    Attendance at an ATO seminar or presentation is considered a continuing professional education (CPE) activity in accordance with the Tax Practitioners Board.

    The ATO has shared the program of open forums with professional associations to include in newsletters and share with their membership.

    The ATO is hearing from some tax professionals that ATO website content is too simple whilst others are saying that it is too complex. The website feedback form can be used to send specific examples which might help the ATO fully understand issues and user concerns from a practical perspective.
