• 3 Disputes about access to information issues

    Disputes about access to documents we hold, can arise in many different circumstances. For example, if a person who is subject to a tax or super audit seeks, and is refused, access to copies of some of the documents relied on by auditors to support an assessment.

    Procedural complaints about the way we have dealt with a Freedom of Information request can be referred to us in the first instance, then to:

    • Office of the Australian Information Commissioner
    • Commonwealth Ombudsman.

    Disputes relating to privacy matters under the Privacy Act 1988, can be referred to us in the first instance, then to:

    • Office of the Australian Information Commissioner
    • Commonwealth Ombudsman.

    You can discuss access to information as part of any primary dispute (including tax, debt, compensation and employment).
