    The final JobMaker period ended on 6 October 2022. Claims for eligible employees employed during this period need to be made before 31 January 2023 with STP reporting for the period due on 28 January 2023.

    The JobMaker Hiring Credit:

    • gives businesses incentives to take on additional young job seekers
    • is a payment made to eligible employers for each eligible additional employee they hire
    • is paid to your employer to help subsidise the cost of employing you if you are an eligible additional employee.

    You will not receive the JobMaker Hiring Credit payment in your own salary, wages or other payment.

    Employers need to pay you like they usually would. Your pay is not dependent on whether your employer receives JobMaker Hiring Credit payments.

    You do not claim the JobMaker Hiring Credit payment. If your employer is eligible, they can choose to apply.

    What you need to do as an employee

    Complete an employee notice

    If your employer intends to participate in the JobMaker Hiring Credit scheme they will ask you to fill in a JobMaker employee notice. That is all you need to do. Everything else is managed by your employer.

    Your employer needs you to complete this employee notice once you commence employment so that they can claim JobMaker Hiring Credit payments for employing you.

    The employee notice will ask you to declare that you:

    • were between 16–29 or 30–35 years old at the time you started employment
    • you received one of these payments for at least 28 consecutive days (or 2 fortnights) in the 84 days (or 6 fortnights) prior to starting employment    
      • JobSeeker Payment
      • Parenting Payment
      • Youth Allowance (except if you are receiving the allowance because you are undertaking full-time study or are a new apprentice)
    • have not filled in a JobMaker employee notice for another employer you are still working for.

    When you give your employee notice to your employer, they will tell us if they are claiming for you. You don’t need to contact us.

    There are penalties for making a false claim in your declaration to your employer.

    Work out if you meet the pre-employment requirement

    To calculate the number of days you received income support, you can count days that included a nil payment. For example, you can count the days you had a nil payment because you were on a:

    • nil rate period
    • suspension that would generally be lifted
    • waiting period.

    We will check your income support payments with Services AustraliaExternal Link, who have more information to help you discuss these payments with your employer.

    Helpful reminders:

    • Tell your employer straight away if you discover that any information on the form is incorrect.
    • JobMaker Hiring Credit payments are not paid to you as an employee. We pay it to your employer to subsidise the cost of hiring you.
    • If you need any help, talk to your employer.

    Giving a notice to a different employer

    If you give a JobMaker employee notice to your employer, the notice ends when you stop working for them.

    You cannot provide two notices to different employers if you hold multiple jobs. If you have provided a current employer with a notice, you cannot give another notice to any other employer (including a new employer) until you stop working for your current employer.

    This applies even if your current employer stops participating in the JobMaker Hiring Credit scheme.

    You will be able to provide a notice to another employer if you:

    • are no longer employed by the employer you had previously given notice to
    • were eligible at the time you commenced employment with the other employer.

    Effect on income support payments

    If you still need financial help you may be eligible for income support even if you receive a wage from your employer and your employer claims JobMaker Hiring Credit payments for you.

    If you are currently on income support, you must report the income you receive from your employer to Services AustraliaExternal Link in the usual way. It may have an impact on your income support payments.

    You do not have to report to Services Australia that your employer is claiming the JobMaker Hiring Credit for you, as you do not receive this income.

    Your employment income may:

    • make you ineligible for income support payments, including JobSeeker Payments
    • reduce the amount of payments you currently receive.

    If you don’t report the income, you may incur a debt you’ll have to repay. You may also need to cancel your JobSeeker Payment.

    We share information with Services Australia to help identify employers that incorrectly claim employees under the JobMaker Hiring Credit scheme.
