Emissions reduction fund - GST

On 18 June 2014, the government introduced to parliament a bill to implement the Emissions Reduction Fund.

The Emissions Reduction Fund is the centrepiece of the Australian Government's Direct Action Plan.

On 25 November 2014, the bill received Royal Assent.

Administrative treatment

The tax treatment of eligible Australian carbon credit units created under the Emissions Reduction Fund is intended to be consistent with arrangements that were in place under the Carbon Farming Initiative. Eligible emissions units remain GST-free.
