Luxury car tax relief for endorsed public institutions (including museums, galleries and libraries)

In the 2015-16 Budget, the government announced that public institutions (including museums, galleries and libraries) endorsed by the Commissioner of Taxation as a deductible gift recipient will be relieved from paying luxury car tax for the importation or acquisition of luxury cars. The measure will only apply to luxury cars that are a work of art or collectors' piece, imported or purchased by the public institution for the sole purpose of public display.

This measure will have effect from the day after Royal Assent of the enabling legislation.
