Commonwealth support for ethics classes in government schools
On 29 June 2013 legislation was enacted that allows public funds that are established and maintained solely for the purpose of providing ethics classes in government schools in Australia to be endorsed as deductible gift recipients (DGRs), as a new general category.
.The legislation amends the tax laws to expand the DGR categories to include organisations approved by state or territory governments to provide ethics classes in public schools as an alternative to special religious education classes.
The measure applies from 29 June 2013.
