  • KiwiSaver Scheme

As part of the 2015-16 Budget the government announced a package of Unclaimed Superannuation Money (USM) reform. One of the proposals was for USM to be able to be transferred to KiwiSaver accounts.

The intent of the measure is to improve the operation of the Trans-Tasman retirement savings portability arrangement between Australia and New Zealand by allowing the ATO to directly transfer Unclaimed Superannuation Money (USM) of New Zealand (NZ) residents via the KiwiSaver Provider (KSP).

The measure received Royal Assent on Friday, 11 December 2020.

Transfers to KSP as per legislative requirement are made twice a year, payments made directly to individuals will be paid regularly as per legislative requirements, with applications being accepted at the end of 2021.
