Release of superannuation for terminal medical condition - relaxing criteria
Law changes have been made to allow members to access their superannuation if two medical practitioners have certified they have a terminal medical condition that is likely to result in their death within 24 months of certification.
The relevant regulations have been amended to extend the life expectancy period from 12 months to 24 months. These changes took effect from 1 July 2015.
The Government announced this measure in the 2015-16 Budget to enable earlier access to superannuation for people with a terminal illness.
