    Be wary of emails, phone calls and text messages claiming to be from the ATO.

    Tax impersonation scam activity occurs in similar patterns globally. Scams can damage the community confidence, brand and reputation of tax administration systems worldwide.

    Any scam that claims to be the ATO or fraudulently references our brand, products, or logo is considered to be an ATO impersonation scam.

    If you or someone you know has paid or provided personal identifying information to a scammer, call us on 1800 008 540 to report it.

    If you receive a scam phone call or text message, and have not paid or provided personal identifying information to the scammer, you can Report the scam online.

    If you are ever unsure whether an ATO interaction is genuine, don’t reply. Call us on 1800 008 540 or visit ato.gov.au/scams.

    ATO impersonation scams occur when someone – or a criminal syndicate – pretends to be from the ATO in an attempt to get money from clients.

    Our monthly ATO impersonation scam intelligence report provides a snapshot of scam intelligence we received from members of the public. This intelligence helps shape our community scam education and awareness strategies.
