  • Update your bank account details

You can update your bank account details:

We can only pay refunds into an Australian bank account. The account must be held by:

    • you under your legal or trading name, either solely or jointly
    • your registered tax or BAS agent
    • a legal practitioner acting as your trustee or executor.

The quickest way to update your bank account details is through our online servicesExternal Link for individuals. All you need is a myGovExternal Link account linked to the ATO. On the ATO Online services homepage, select My profile.

When providing your account details, we require the:

    • bank state branch (BSB) number – this number has six digits (do not include spaces or hyphens)
    • account number – this number has no more than nine digits (do not include spaces or hyphens)
    • account name.

When entering the account name, include spaces between each word and initials where required – for example, JQ Citizen. If there are more than 32 characters in the account name, provide the first 32 only. Do not show the account type, such as cheque, savings, or mortgage offset.

    By phone

You or a nominated representative can update your bank account details, by calling us to speak to a customer services representative. Have your person tax file number (TFN) or Australian business number (ABN) ready when you contact us. We will then confirm your identity by asking a series of questions based on information from your tax records.
