  • Serving up super for new workers

    31 March 2022

You may have found you've needed to take on new workers in 2022.

Even if a new staff member is a relative or only helping out occasionally, you'll need to work out if they're eligible for super.

Once you work out who you need to to pay super to, you'll need to know:

    • what to pay
    • where to pay
    • how to pay
    • when to pay.

Sorting out super obligations for your new worker is a piece of cake if they put their super details in the employment commencement form in ATO online services. They submit the information to us, saving you from doing so; they also give you a copy. You input the details into your business systems and they're ready to go.

If your new worker doesn't have access to ATO online services, you can give them a Superannuation standard choice form to complete.

If they don't choose a fund, you may need to request stapled super fund details for them.

Are your super obligations making you feel a bit scrambled? You can reach out to a trusted adviser, such as a BAS or tax agent, bookkeeper or payroll provider to help you meet your super obligations.
