  • What to do if you've been scammed

    23 June 2017

When it comes to tax scams, prevention is definitely better than cure.

As a business, it’s important to know what to protect and keep secure. Identity thieves can take your business details by:

    • breaking into your business and stealing your records
    • taking photos of your business or employee details
    • stealing your passwords, account logins and AUSkey
    • obtaining access to your data through legitimate means (for example, as an employee).

Thieves can then use your business information to trick your customers or staff into providing additional information or money and set up fraudulent bank accounts in your name.

Help is available if you find yourself in trouble because of a tax scammer or thief accessing your data. We'll work with you, together with IDCARE, to reduce any harm you or your customers may experience.

If your TFN, AUSkey, myGov credentials or other security information has been stolen or used by an unauthorised person, call our Client Identity Support Centre on 1800 467 033.

For any other non-tax information that has been put at risk in any way, either online or physical, call IDCARE on 1300 432 273.
