  • Changes to Commonwealth Government contract requirements

If your not-for-profit organisation tenders for Commonwealth Government contracts, the procurement process for contracts worth over $4 million (including GST) has changed.

If you are tendering for these contracts, you must obtain a statement of tax record (STR) from the ATO that shows satisfactory engagement with the tax system.

If you engage first tier subcontractors whose contact is worth over $4 million, they also need an STR.

    We recommend you:

    • refer to your tender request documentation to check your requirements
    • keep your tax obligations up to date, including registration, lodgment and payment to ensure you receive a satisfactory STR
    • apply for an STR early to allow time for processing before the tender closing date.

For information about how to apply and the criteria for a satisfactory STR, see Statement of tax record.
