  • Maintaining the integrity of COVID-19 stimulus measures

In these difficult and uncertain times, our priority has been to help those who have been financially affected by COVID-19. We’ve been working hard to give people and organisations, including not-for-profits, the support they need and will not penalise them for making genuine mistakes.

We’ve recently released our COVID-19 approach to compliance. It contains information about our compliance approach to the stimulus measures, as well as helpful links to examples of arrangements that concern us.

We know that most Australians are honest and do the right thing, but we also know that some people try to take advantage of the system for their own financial gain. We have seen a handful of people engaging in illegal behaviour and developing contrived schemes to take advantage of the stimulus measures. We will not tolerate this behaviour and we have taken action to ensure fairness for all people and organisations who are doing the right thing.

We investigate unusual claims for stimulus payments and measures and refer serious cases to the Serious Financial Crime Taskforce.

If you suspect someone of exploiting the system, you can tell us about it using the confidential tip-off hotline or online tip-off form.
