ATO Online defect – bring forward arrangement tax payable message

A defect is affecting ATO Online users who are currently in a bring forward arrangement for non-concessional contributions.

We will deploy a fix by 11 December 2017, however during this time you may receive an increase in enquiries from your members.

This affects any of your members who:

    • are in an active bring forward arrangement starting in either the 2015–16 or 2016–17 financial years and have contributed amounts up to $540,000 before 1 July 2017.
    • have exceeded their transitional bring forward arrangement caps prior to the 1 July 2017.

These members may incorrectly receive the following message on the Contributions details page in ATO Online:

You have exceeded the bring forward cap and will need to pay extra tax at your marginal tax rate or higher.

The fix will replace this message which advises these affected members that they can obtain more information about their bring forward arrangement on our website.

Before 1 July 2017 individuals could contribute up to $540,000 in a bring forward arrangement without exceeding the cap.

The transitional arrangements only apply to contributions made from 1 July 2017.

If the non-concessional contribution bring forward was triggered in 2015–16, the transitional cap will be $460,000 (the annual cap of $180,000 from 2015–16 and 2016–17 and the $100,000 cap in 2017–18).

If the bring forward was triggered in 2016–17, the transitional cap will $380,000 (the annual cap of $180,000 in 2016–17 and $100,000 cap in 2017–18 and 2018–19).
