    Background – LMR re-report 2016

As previously advised, funds are required to lodge a lost member’s statement (LMS) for all current lost and inactive members on your records as at 31 December 2015.

    Issue

To date the ATO has received 26 re-report lodgements for 22 funds and only 12 were correct.

The remaining 10 funds have included data as described below in the “What NOT to include in the re-report.” section. These funds have been advised to correct their errors and resubmit their LMS.

We encourage you to lodge your statement early to mid-May, to allow for file corrections; this will allow us to ensure you have reported correctly.

What to include in the re-report:

    • All current lost (L) and inactive (I) members held by the fund as at 31 December 2015
    • Provider details – ensure that this contains the full registered name of the fund
    • Supplier details – ensure that this contains the
    • Full registered name of the supplier, and
    • Direct contact details of the person lodging the form

What NOT to include in the re-report:

Do not include any lost accounts that:

    • are Found (F), Transferred (T), or reported in Error (E)
    • have account balances under $4,000 (excluding defined benefit accounts)
    • have been identified, reported and paid as Unclaimed Superannuation Money (USM) accounts included in:-
    • the USM statement lodged prior to 30 April 2016
    • any previous USM statement reporting period.

Do not use a sub plan or product name in the provider name details field.

Where your report has not adhered to the above rules you will be required to re-submit your LMS.

Update to the 007/2016 CRT alert – provision of Unclaimed Super Money (USM) account information

    Background

As advised in Super CRT Alert 007/2016, in the absence of funds using SuperMatch2, the timeliest manner for individuals to transfer their monies is via myGov. Where the member is unable to access myGov, the ATO will provide limited assistance in the processing of files where member consent has been obtained by the funds.

This campaign has seen a large number of funds take up the offer to obtain information. Therefore we are anticipating a large amount of information to be returned to the ATO for processing.

    What you need to do

Where a fund is providing USM consent data to be processed by the ATO, we are seeking consents to be obtained by 30th June, with files being sent to the ATO via Data Transfer Facility (BDE) by 31st July 2016.

Consent information can be sent at any time and in doing so will reduce peak workloads for ATO processing staff and result in monies being rolled over to funds sooner.

    In summary:

    • Obtain consent by 30 June 2016
    • Send files to ATO via Data Transfer Facility (BDE) by 31 July 2016
    • Advise us via the SASGSecretariat@ato.gov.au mailbox once a file has been lodged via the Data Transfer Facility so that it can be retrieved.

    New SuperStream administrative guidance

    Background

APRA funds must allocate contributions to a member’s account within three business days of receiving the contribution payment (cleared funds) and the mandatory contribution information, whichever is the later.

If an employer provides incomplete data you must, within five business days of receiving the contribution details, ask the employer to provide the correct and complete information.

    What you need to do

The ATO has released new SuperStream administrative guidance on incomplete data not affecting allocation collection of missing mandatory member information.
