  • Director ID applications are now available

You can now apply for a director identification number (director ID) online at the Australian Business Registry Services (ABRS).

If you are a director of a corporate trustee of a self-managed super fund (SMSF) you need to apply for a director ID. When you must apply depends on when you became a director. If you:

    • are appointed between 1 November 2021 and 4 April 2022 you need to apply within 28 days of your appointment. After this period you will need to apply before being appointed
    • were appointed on or before 31 October 2021, you have until 30 November 2022 to apply.

To apply, you will need to use the myGovID app to log in to ABRS online. If you haven't already set up your myGovID, you will need to set up to a Standard or Strong identity strength to access this service. You will need to apply for your director ID yourself to verify your identity. No one can apply on your behalf.

Your authorised tax or ASIC agent or SMSF adviser cannot apply for a director ID for you. They can only help you understand the new requirements, if you need to apply and by when.

This short video will help you understand the new requirement and how to apply.

If you cannot get a myGovID, the best way to apply will depend on your situation.

More information regarding this is available on the ABRS website.
