  • Highlights: SMSF quarterly statistical report June 2018

    Our Self-managed super fund quarterly statistical report – June 2018 is now available and provides our latest statistics on the self-managed super fund (SMSF) sector. Highlights include:

    • the total number of SMSFs is now 596,225
    • the total number of members in SMSFs is now 1,118,650
    • the total estimated SMSF assets is now $750 billion
    • the top asset types held by SMSFs, by value, are listed shares and cash and term deposits, making up 31% and 23% of total estimated SMSF assets, respectively
    • 53% of SMSF members are male and 47% are female
    • 84.3% of SMSF members are 45 years or older.

    This report also provides an update of the annual SMSF population analysis tables for 2013 to 2017, based on SMSF annual return data. From these, highlights for 2017 include:

    • the average assets per SMSF member was $652,000
    • the average assets per SMSF was $1.2 million
    • member contributions into SMSFs were $34.7 billion
    • employer contributions into SMSFs were $7.1 billion.
