  • We're here to help you

As the regulator of self-managed super funds (SMSFs), we know that the vast majority of people in the sector seek to do the right thing and operate within the rules and regulations. We understand most people start their SMSF because they want to manage their own retirement planning. Our aim is to support this important goal as well as to manage the sector as regulator.

For this reason, our primary focus is to support, inform and assist trustees and their advisers. We do this by providing a range of guidance, resources, tools and services that make managing the regulatory and tax aspects of an SMSF as easy as possible. These resources are free and available at the SMSF resources section of our website, they include:

    Super Scheme Smart

Another key form of support we provide is to warn about schemes and arrangements that seek to take advantage of SMSF trustees. These schemes promise to deliver significant tax or financial benefits beyond those ordinarily available. The arrangements may be complex and structured to appear legitimate.

To help you identify and avoid these schemes, we've published our Super Scheme Smart page.

SMSF early engagement and voluntary disclosure service

We understand trustees can make mistakes. If this happens please work with your advisers, including your SMSF auditor, to resolve errors as soon as possible.

If you're unable to fix a mistake, you can make a voluntary disclosure to us via the SMSF early engagement and voluntary disclosure service. We'll work with you and your adviser to agree on a solution plan.

We've protected more than $560 million of retirement savings by helping over 880 trustees since this service began.
