  • Superstream Reference Group (SSRG) Terms of reference

    The SuperStream Reference Group:

    • Addresses strategic issues relating to implementation of SuperStream
    • Oversees SuperStream standards implementation and readiness
    • Provides advice on the structure and arrangements for SuperStream gateway governance

    The ATO consultation protocol underpins the ATO's consultation framework arrangements.


    The ATO will chair and select members of the SuperStream Reference Group for a period of up to two years.

    Members will be representative of stakeholders across the superannuation industry and be appointed in a personal capacity.

    Members are expected to have a high level of personal and professional integrity, work together and bring a broad perspective to issues, rather than solely that of a particular stakeholder community.

    The group may invite observers to attend meetings.

    Members will be required to meet their own costs of attending meetings and contributing to the work of the SuperStream Reference Group. They will not be paid consultancy or sitting fees.

    General Operation of the group

    Responsibilities of the Chair

    The Chair will be responsible for finalising the agenda (in collaboration with the Secretariat) and identifying any agenda items involving substantive matters for decision or potential changes that are to be referred to a relevant sub-group for assessment and evaluation.

    Absent members

    Members will be able to nominate one delegate to attend meetings of the SuperStream Reference Group in their absence.

    Frequency and timing of meetings

    The SuperStream Reference Group will meet monthly. The use of teleconference facilities may be used for additional meetings.

    Face to face meetings will predominantly be held in Sydney.


    The SuperStream Reference Group will be supported by a Secretariat located within the ATO. The Secretariat will be responsible for the preparation and circulation of relevant papers including agendas and minutes.

    The ATO will publish a summary of meeting outcomes on its website.
