  • Inappropriate use of myGov

With the range of new COVID-19 support measures now in place, we are reminding tax practitioners that using your clients' myGov credentials is not an approved channel to manage your clients' tax affairs.

Doing this breaches the ATO Online terms and conditions. myGov is not an approved channel for tax practitioners to use. You may risk referral to the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) if you use myGov on behalf of your clients, with or without your clients’ knowledge.

You should use Online services for agents or your practice management software to manage your clients' tax affairs.

We are paying particular attention to unregistered preparers who may be obtaining myGov credentials to lodge on behalf of individuals. We are closely monitoring applications for COVID-19 support measures. Our data matching and collection tools will help us identify patterns of behaviour showing this inappropriate use of myGov. Protecting the community and the tax profession from unregistered preparers remains a priority for us.

If you are concerned about the conduct of another tax practitioner you may submit a complaintExternal Link with the TPB.
