  • Tax Time 2019 rolls on

While Tax Time 2019 has now wrapped up for many taxpayers, for you in the tax profession it continues.

You have played a critical role in the success of this year's tax time, especially with the number of significant changes for you and your clients in 2019. Some of the key changes we have worked on together include:

    • Single Touch Payroll (STP)
      • all large employers are now either reporting through STP or have a deferral in place
      • more than 450,000 small employers are reporting through STP

    • Online services for agents
      • after completing private and public beta testing, Online services for agents became your default login option

    • the expansion and extension of the low and middle income tax offset.

From 1 July to 31 October 2019, tax agents lodged over 7.3 million prior and current year tax returns. This is an increase of almost 300,000 tax returns lodged compared to the same period last year. It highlights the important role you play in helping your clients understand and meet their obligations.

To support you with this role, we will continue to provide information and keep you updated in various ways, including through information on ato.gov.au, our Tax professionals newsletter, Tax professionals conversations webcasts, Tax Time Toolkits and Open Forums.
