    From 1 July 2017 we have received approximately 2,689,337 inbound calls to general queues and 530,172 to tax practitioner queues and achieved service commitments of:

    • General taxpayer calls – 83% (YTD) of calls are answered within 5 minutes
    • Tax practitioner calls – 92% (YTD) of calls are answered within 2 minutes

    Latest contact centre reports show an average wait time of 28 seconds and an average handle time of 739 seconds in the tax practitioner queues.

    Black economy task force measures

    The Government has released for public consultation the exposure draft and explanatory material for two Black Economy Taskforce measures:

    • Prohibition on sales suppression technology and software
    • Extension of the taxable payments reporting system to contractors in the courier and cleaning industries

    The draft legislation and supporting materials are available on the Treasury websiteExternal Link, we are encouraging stakeholders to consider the material and provide their views. Submissions close on Friday 10 November 2017.

    Check your clients' income data before lodging

    If we identify income is missing from a tax return, we will correct the return before issuing the notice of assessment. Read how you can help ensure the accuracy of your clients' returns and avoid processing delays.
