  • Manage ABN Connections

Manage ABN Connections allows you to access government online business services using your myGov login. It's a secure login alternative to an AUSkey that can be used from any smart device.

If you already have a myGov account linked to the ATO, Centrelink or Medicare you can use Manage ABN Connections to access services such as:

    • Business Portal
    • Access Manager
    • AUSkey Manager
    • Australian Business Register (ABR)
    • Departing Australia Superannuation Payment (DASP)
    • A broad range of other government online business servicesExternal Link

If you don’t have a myGov account, you will need to create one and link to either the ATO, Centrelink, or Medicare before you can set-up an ABN connection.

Note: The Tax Agent Portal and BAS Agent Portal aren't currently able to be accessed using Manage ABN Connections.

Electronic Commerce Interface (ECI) and Standard Business Reporting (SBR) are currently not available using Manage ABN Connections.

    Benefits

The ability to connect an ABN to your myGov account gives you:

    • a choice in how you access government online business services
    • the ability to connect one or multiple ABNs
    • a single username and password for both personal and business services.

It also offers you greater flexibility to conduct your business anytime, anywhere because it's compatible with all browsers and mobile devices. This is unlike AUSkey, which can only be used on the computer it's been installed on or from a USB.

    Who can use it

Manage ABN Connections can be used by:

    • the associates of a business
    • anyone authorised to act on behalf of a business.

The associates of a business include anyone listed as an associate in the Australian Business Register (ABR). For example, business owners, directors of a company, partners of a partnership, or trustees of a trust. However, sole traders may prefer to use our ATO online services for individuals and sole traders.

If you're authorised to act on behalf of a business you can connect using either your personal details (ABN and personal TFN) or your AUSkey and password.

You should continue to use Access Manager to manage all associate and staff member accesses and permissions to your business information, including removing access entirely.

    Get started

To use Manage ABN Connections and connect ABN/s to your myGov account you need to:

If you already have a myGov account linked to the ATO, Centrelink or Medicare, simply connect your ABN/s to your personal myGov account by selecting 'Manage ABN Connections' in 'Account Settings' in myGov.

Note: If you create a myGov account and link to the ATO, you'll receive most personal ATO mail (and business ATO mail if you’re a sole trader) through your myGov Inbox.

If you create a myGov account and link it to Centrelink or Medicare, this won't change the delivery of your ATO mail. If you link to the ATO and you have a tax or BAS agent, they will still be able to access any correspondence the ATO sends you. However, your agent won't be notified that you’ve received the correspondence.  We recommend that you discuss this with your agent before setting up Manage ABN Connections.

    Connect from myGov

If you're an associate of a business, you can connect from myGov by following these steps.

    1. Log in to myGov.
    2. Go to Account settings.
    3. Under General settings select Manage ABN Connections.
    4. Click on Connect an ABN
    5. You can connect using either your personal details (ABN and personal TFN) or your existing AUSkey and password. If you connect using your AUSkey and password you must be using the USB or machine your AUSkey is installed on (once you've connected you'll no longer need to use an AUSkey).
    6. Choose to connect an ABN using your personal details or AUSkey and password and click on Start connection process.
    7. Follow the prompts.
    8. Once the ABN is connected you can access government online business services (for example, the Business Portal). When you log in to the service, access the service's log in screen as normal and choose myGov from the login options, and sign in using your myGov details.
    9. If you have more than one ABN that you would like to connect, select Connect another ABN in the Manage ABN Connections screen and repeat step 4 onwards.

Authorising others to act on behalf of your business

If you're a business associate and would like to authorise someone (such as a staff member) to act on behalf of your business, you can grant them authorisation using AUSkey Manager. To organise for someone to act on behalf of a business, you'll need:

    • full administrator access to act on behalf of the business
    • the full legal name of the person you wish to register
    • their email address.

If the person you'd like to authorise already has an AUSkey and password they can use them to link their myGov account to your ABN in myGov. To authorise someone who doesn't have an existing AUSkey and password:

    1. Log in to AUSkey Manager.
    2. Go to Register new AUSkey and fill in the details.
    3. Confirm the details you've entered are correct. These must match the first and last names on myGov for the person you would like to authorise. You will also want to ensure that the email you have entered is up-to-date, and that the person being authorised can still access that email account.
    4. You'll receive a message confirming that your application has been submitted.

Note: The person you're authorising will receive an email titled "Download and install your AUSkey", advising they've been approved to access Government business services for the business. They'll need to follow the link in the email to complete the registration to connect an ABN, and can see below for more information.

After the person you're authorising has finished linking your ABN to their myGov account, you'll need to set their permissions. As an associate of a business you must continue to set permissions for your authorised people using Access Manager.

I've received a 'Download and install your AUSkey email'

    2. Click on the link that will allow you to complete your registration, allowing you to install your AUSkey and/or connect to an existing Government login if you have one.
    3. The link will take you to the page where you can choose to install an AUSkey or connect an ABN to your myGov account.
    4. Select Next to connect an ABN to your myGov account.
    5. Enter the Captcha code and Sign In to myGov.
    6. A screen will confirm that you've successfully connected an ABN to your myGov account and set up Manage ABN Connections.

Note: Manage ABN Connections does not change the levels of access for authorised individuals.

Access Manager will still need to be used to manage all associate and staff member accesses and permissions to business information, including removing access entirely. Only Administrator access holders will be able to update permissions in Access Manager.
