• Lodging early helps your employees

Lodging payment summary annual reports early makes completing tax returns easier.

Pre-filling of income tax returns is a service we provide to help people prepare and lodge their individual tax returns.

The pre-filling service is available to:

    • people who prepare their tax returns online using myTax
    • tax agents via a report through the Tax Agent Portal.

    How you can help

You can make it easier for your employees to complete and lodge their tax returns, by lodging your pay as you go (PAYG) withholding payment summary annual report as soon as you provide payment summaries to your employees.

As soon as we have processed your annual report, we will pre-fill this information into the correct labels on your employees' tax returns, or provide it directly to their tax agent.

If you lodged early last year, please continue to do so. If you didn't, consider lodging early this year – the earlier you lodge, the sooner we can make payment summary information available to your employees.

To speed up the process even more, lodge online.

    Lodging online

You can lodge your PAYG withholding payment summary annual report online using the file transfer facility through the:

    • Business Portal
    • Tax Agent Portal
    • BAS Agent Portal.

Benefits of lodging your annual reports online include:

    • the ability to upload large files without needing to split the file
    • the option to send multiple files as a single compressed file
    • reduced upload time if you compress the file before submitting
    • an easy-to-use, fast and efficient service
    • reduced risk of errors and faster processing times than paper.

    Getting started

    To lodge online you need:

    • an Australian business number (ABN)
    • payroll software that meets our specifications
    • an AUSkey.

Register for an AUSkey at auskey.abr.gov.auExternal Link

Payment summary annual reports lodged on paper will still be available for pre-filling, but may not be processed as quickly as reports lodged online.
