Section B: Project interest information

Last updated 12 September 2013

Question 4 The interest is a:

If the project interest type is a:

  • MPI, place an X in the ‘MPI’ box and complete question 4(a)
  • PMPI, place an X in the 'PMPI' box and complete question 4(a)
  • combined MPI, place an X in the ‘Combined MPI’ box and complete question 4(b).

Question 4(a) MPI or PMPI details

If this schedule relates to a combined MPI, leave question 4(a) blank and go to question 4(b).

If the interest is an MPI, insert the mine name, tenement/lease number and the state/territory that issued the associated production licence at question 4(a).

If the interest is a PMPI, insert the exploration project name, tenement/lease number and the state/territory that issued the associated exploration licence at question 4(a).

If the entity has multiple MPIs with the same name, number the projects sequentially across schedules. You should consistently use the numbers for all future MRRT years.

The entity is only liable to pay MRRT on its share of the output from the mining venture. Insert the entity’s entitlement to share in the output of the mine for the MRRT return period - as:

  • a percentage to two decimal places
  • the number of tonnes of resource the entity is entitled to from the mining venture to which the entity’s MPI relates.

Leave the entity's entitlement to share in the output of the mine blank if the interest to which this schedule relates is a PMPI.

If the joint venture entitles another entity to a portion of the output and the entity completing this schedule is entitled to the residual output, print ‘residual’ in the ‘tonnes’ box.

Question 4(b) Combined MPI details

Insert the name of the combined MPI at question 4(b). You should use the combined MPI name nominated consistently across MRRT years. If the entity has multiple combined MPIs with the same name, number the projects sequentially across schedules. You should consistently use the numbers for all future MRRT years.

If you have not previously notified us of the constituent MPIs making up the combined MPI, complete Attachment A.

If you have previously notified us of the constituent MPIs making up the combined MPI, but the constituent MPIs have changed since you previously notified us, complete Attachment B.

For information on completing attachment A and attachment B, see Attachment A: Additional details for combined MPI and Attachment B: Changes to combined MPI.

Question 5 What taxable resource does the project relate to?

If the project relates to iron ore, place an X in the ‘Iron ore’ box.

If the project relates to coal, place an X in the ‘Coal’ box.

Question 6 Was the MPI or PMPI acquired by the entity during the return period?

If this schedule relates to a combined MPI, leave this question blank and go to question 8.

If the entity did not acquire the MPI or PMPI during the period to which this schedule relates, place an X in the ‘No’ box.

If the entity did acquire the MPI or PMPI during the period to which this schedule relates, place an X in the ‘Yes’ box and provide the legal name and ABN of the entity from which the entity acquired the interest.

Question 7 During the return period, did the MPI originate from a PMPI?

If this schedule relates to a combined MPI or a PMPI, leave this question blank.

If the MPI did not originate from a PMPI during the return period, place an X in the 'No' box.

If the MPI did originate from a PMPI during the return period, place an X in the 'Yes' box and provide the tenement/lease number and state or territory that issued the associated tenement/lease number for the PMPI from which the MPI originated.

Next steps:

If the MPI originated from multiple PMPIs, provide these details on a separate sheet of paper:

  • title each page 'Additional PMPI details'
  • the ABN and name of the entity provided at questions 1 and 3
  • the MPI schedule number
  • the additional tenement or lease numbers and state or territory of issue.

Question 8 Has the suspension day for the MPI occurred during the return period?

If a suspension day for the MPI did not occur during the return period, place an X in the ‘No’ box.

If a suspension day for the MPI did occur during the return period, place an X in the ‘Yes’ box and insert the date of the suspension day.

Answer the question ‘Did the entity choose the suspension day because commercial production had ceased?’ by placing an X in either the:

  • ‘No’ box if the suspension day occurred because the termination day has occurred (that is, there is no longer any entity that has the MPI), or because it is 10 years since commercial production ceased
  • ‘Yes’ box if the suspension day occurred because the entity chose a suspension day after commercial production ceased.

A mining project split may occur for a combined interest if commercial production has ceased for a constituent MPI or there is no longer any entity that has the constituent MPI. A suspension day may then occur to the constituent MPI as an MPI in its own right after the mining project split. If this is the case, the entity will need to complete:

  • Attachment B as part of answering question 4(b) for the combined MPI to notify that the constituent MPI whose suspension day has occurred is no longer part of the combined MPI
  • a separate Minerals resource rent tax (MRRT) return mining project interest (MPI) schedule for the constituent MPI for which the suspension day has occurred.
