• National tax equivalent regime

The national tax equivalent regime is an intergovernmental arrangement that notionally applies federal income tax laws to nominated state and territory government businesses.

We administer the national tax equivalent regime in line with a memorandum of understanding with state and territory governments. This included responding to 14 requests for interpretive advice lodged by national tax equivalent regime entities. We also completed 15 large taxpayer visits and 10 risk reviews of government businesses, as agreed with states and territories.

We have found general compliance levels and cooperation to be high among national tax equivalent regime groups that we reviewed.
