Australian Business Register

The Australian Business Register (ABR) provides an authoritative and trusted source of business identity information and issues Australian business numbers (ABN) to uniquely identify businesses.

Our aim is to progress the ABR as a whole-of-government resource for streamlining business and government interactions. The ABN acts as the unique identifier enabling these interactions and is also used for policy development, urban planning and service delivery purposes.

  • Establishing 89 new partnering arrangements with government agencies, mainly local councils
  • Continuing our focus on data integrity - with 36,727 new registrations refused at the point of registration and 51,103 ABN cancellations initiated by the Registrar in relation to entities no longer entitled to be registered
  • Providing easier access to ABR data
