• The ABR's performance

    To keep the details current, the register is regularly updated using information from the Australian Securities Investment Commission and the ATO, combined with information from registrants.

    In 2010-11, there were about 4 million ABR-related updates, an increase of 22% on 2009-10.

    During 2010-11, 534,147 new ABNs were issued, with a further 67,548 ABNs re-issued to entities that had recommenced their enterprises.

    We met our service standard for ABR registrations, registering 93.7% within 28 days against a benchmark of 93%.

    The Registrar continued to focus on ensuring entities registering for an ABN were entitled to do so, with 36,727 ABNs refused during 2010-11.

    In 2010-11, we received 141,836 requests from registrants asking for their ABN to be cancelled as they had ceased operating their enterprises.
