• Input to law design

    Design and build administrative solutions

In 2010-11 we assisted Treasury on new policy proposals, including:

    • the minerals resource rent tax
    • extended petroleum resource rent tax
    • phoenix legislative measures
    • indirect tax issues, such as the taxation of alternative fuels
    • Stronger Super package.

Our contribution to Stronger Super included active membership of three of the consultative groups - developing and delivering several issues papers and presentations for each. We also lead several working groups. Our contribution resulted in a greater understanding of industry, employer and employee needs and practices.

We also worked collaboratively with the Board of Taxation, assisting with its reviews.

    SNAPSHOT:
An integrated approach to tax design

In 2010 we engaged with the Australian Government's Policy Transition Group regarding arrangements for the proposed resource rent tax. The group, which consulted with industry, was established to advise government on the technical design of the new minerals resource rent tax and extension to the petroleum resource rent tax.

Our work helped to influence a number of the Policy Transition Group's recommendations.

This and our engagement work with the Resource Tax Implementation Group, the Treasury and Department of Industry are examples of the practical application of integrated tax design principles in a challenging environment.
