Research and development tax concession program

At 30 June 2011, a total of 8,614 companies had registered their research and development activities with AusIndustry to obtain a concessional deduction or a research and development tax offset under this program. These registrations were in respect of reported research and development expenditures totalling $16.5 billion. The value of research and development tax offsets claimed for this and prior years is reported in administered programs.

In addition, 1,508 of these companies indicated they intended to access the 175% research and development incremental concessions available to companies increasing their levels of Australian-owned and/or foreign-owned research and development relative to their average over the previous three years.

The Pooled Development Funds Program closed to new applications for registration on 21 June 2007 due to the expansion of the venture capital measure. There are 44 registered pooled development funds.
