Act No 137 of 2000 contained the following transitional provisions, effective 24 May 2001:
Despite the amendment or repeal of a provision, that provision continues to apply, after the commencement of this item, in relation to:
an offence committed before the commencement of this item; or
proceedings for an offence alleged to have been committed before the commencement of this item; or
any matter connected with, or arising out of, such proceedings;
as if the amendment or repeal had not been made.
Subitem (1) does not limit the operation of section
Acts Interpretation Act 1901
a provision in force immediately before the commencement of this item required that a notice set out the effect of one or more other provisions; and
any or all of those other provisions are repealed; and
the first-mentioned provision is amended;
the amendment of the first-mentioned provision does not affect the validity of such a notice that was given before the commencement of this item.

Forgery of seals
person who forges, or utters knowing it to be forged:
the Great Seal of Australia or the public seal of a Territory;
the seal of the High Court or any
other federal court, or any seal used by the High Court or any other federal
the official seal
of a Minister of State;
official seal used by any Department of the Commonwealth, or any public authority
under the Commonwealth; or
official seal of which, under a law of the Commonwealth or a Territory, judicial
notice is to be taken;
shall be guilty
of an indictable offence.
Penalty: Imprisonment for 10 years.
person who, without lawful authority (proof whereof shall lie upon him), makes,
or has in possession, any die or stamp capable of making an impression in
the form of any of the seals referred to in this section, or resembling or
apparently intended to resemble or pass for any of those seals, shall be guilty
of an offence.
Penalty: Imprisonment for 2 years.
die or stamp made or had in possession in contravention of this section shall
be forfeited to the Commonwealth.
