3.3 What is the description of each of the indicators and what is their purpose?

  • For each indicator, provide a description of both the indicator and the changes in compliance behaviour and community confidence it will demonstrate. These changes represent the purpose of the indicator.
  • Do not express the indicator as 'the number of...' as this is an absolute measure and does not allow for a relative comparison before and after intervention. It will not give insight into the relative or proportionate change.
  • Use a neutral description for the indicator which allows for a relative comparison, such as 'a change in the rate of …' rather than 'a reduction in the rate of …' Expressing the indicator with reference to an index, rate or ratio may help with defining and measuring the indicator.
  • Record whether the indicator is useful in the immediate, intermediate or long term. Some indicators may be useful over all three periods.
