    Tax file numbers

We use tax file numbers (TFNs) to match the details on the member's tax return with the contributions reported on the Superannuation member contributions statement. This information determines whether surcharge needs to be paid.

If the member has provided their TFN, then providers should report their member's TFN to us with their surcharge obligations. If the member gives their TFN to a super provider, it means the member is allowing the provider to use the TFN for surcharge purposes.

    Attention

If we are unable to match the taxpayer to the surchargeable contributions reported by the provider because a correct TFN was not provided, these contributions may be subject to the maximum rate of surcharge.
