After completing private beta testing, ATO Online services for agents was progressively made available in public beta and is now available to all agents. Online services for agents can be used to access services you use in the tax and BAS agent portals and for new services.

The public beta testing with BAS agents has now been completed. Online services for agents is now available for BAS agents to use as their default system. Public beta testing will continue for tax agents to allow extra time as the public beta process started with BAS agents first.

    Co-designing the new system

When co-designing the new system, we listened to feedback from you and private beta participants on issues you experienced with existing portals, to refine functionality in the new service.

We worked with many tax and BAS agents to test the system in a live environment. Participants included agents from around the country in regional and metropolitan areas and from practices of varying sizes, from sole practitioners to larger national firms. This group of private beta participants provided valuable feedback to help us improve our services before public beta testing.

Similar services are being made available to your digital service providers to include in your practice management software. The timing of when these services will be built into commercial software is their decision. We'll continue to consult and co-design with you and your digital service providers to determine priorities for this transition, and the most effective way to deliver these changes.

How tax agents can access public beta

Tax agents can access Online services for agents using any existing portal login to participate in the public beta. You will be directed to a login page with a choice to either log in to Online services for agents or the Tax Agent Portal.

The public beta for tax agents will continue into tax time. We are still accepting your feedback and making changes to improve your experience.

We recognise this is a significant change for you and your practice. The portals will remain available while you transition to Online services for agents.
